Nothing fuels my intermittent fasting fire more than reading books about intermittent fasting. Apparently, there’s just something about discovering new benefits of fasting that keeps me motivated!
As I’ve mentioned in nearly all of my intermittent fasting articles, I rely on a steady routine of reading books about intermittent fasting to fuel my fasting fire. Needless to say, it’s been a nice switch from a lifetime of studying how how to be happy eating 800 calories or less a day.
To clarify, when I say “reading” books about intermittent fasting, that sometimes includes “listening.” This comes in handy when I take a luxury shower to avoid hanging out in the kitchen.
For the record, a luxury shower isn’t just an ordinary shower! (In fact, no soap or shampoo is even required.) Luxury showers are a great way to burn through 30 minutes or more and stay distracted from eating. So of course sometimes when I’m in my luxury shower, I want to read books about intermittent fasting. But that is a little tricky in the shower!
And then I discovered Audible…
And then I discovered Audible. Because Audible allows me to listen to books about intermittent fasting when circumstances don’t permit reading. Plus, it also works great with my escape shower Bluetooth speaker. Furthermore, with Audible, I can actually read while I’m driving too.
And just recently I enjoyed AUDIBLE while taking an “escape nap.” I was so comfy laying in bed and able to continue my motivational reading (a.k.a. listening) with my eyes closed.
Fortunately, Audible allows me to switch seamlessly back and forth between reading text and listening depending on what I prefer. If you haven’t tried Audible yet, I’m including a link here that will allow you to check it out for free and see if you like it!
With all this in mind, I’ve included five very popular and helpful books about intermittent fasting with multiple delivery options for you. (Hard copy, Kindle, and Audible.)

1. Life In The Fasting Lane
Dr. Jason Fung, Eve Mayer, Megan Ramos
When it comes to Intermittent Fasting, Dr. Jason Fung is certainly among the most celebrated experts. His books The Obesity Code and The Complete Guide to Fasting are stuffed with plenty of science and anecdotal evidence.
So, it’s no surprise that Life in the Fasting Lane is another hit for Dr. Fung. By comparison, it’s a little easier to digest and a great resource for fasting novices and skeptics alike.
Moreover, I particularly enjoyed reading why he believes calorie-dictated eating is pointless. Another highlight for me was his explanation about the crucial role hormones play in healthy eating and weight loss through intermittent fasting.
2. Delay, Don’t Deny
Gin Stephens
Author Gin Stephens has an impressive following and for good reason! Although Delay Don’t Deny is her first book, about intermittent fasting, it is still one of my very favorites. In addition, it’s an easy read as well as a great overview of the process and benefits of intermittent fasting.
This book about intermittent fasting explains exactly how fasting can be a sustainable way to be healthy for the rest of your life. Additionally, Gin does a great job of tying in her own personal story of health and weight loss.
Don’t miss Dawn’s overview of Delay Don’t Deny for more information about this fasting favorite!

3. The Complete Guide to Fasting
Dr. Jason Fung, Jimmy Moore
Whether you’re new to fasting or want to fine-tune your fasting plan, this book about intermittent fasting is perfect for beginners and experts alike. In any case, there is loads of good information on how to build the right fasting program for the best results.
I like the way The Complete Guide to Fasting answers questions about how to fast according to the faster’s eating and diet preferences. You will find a lot of great information about what to expect when you start fasting and how to avoid negative effects. In addition, the book also includes a 7-Day Kick-Start Fasting Plan and 20 healing recipes.
Experts agree that intermittent fasting is not for everyone. Please read our Terms of Use.
4. Fast. Feast. Repeat
Gin Stephens
Fast. Feast. Repeat. is Gin’s best-selling follow up to Delay Don’t Deny. In short, this book about intermittent fasting explains how to work a variety of fasting approaches into your life, no matter what your circumstances or schedule. Once you’ve ignited your fat-burning superpower, you’ll get rid of “diet brain” forever, tweak your protocol until it’s second nature, and learn why IF is a lifestyle, not a diet.

5. Fast Like A Girl
Dr. Mindy Pelz
Mindy Pelz, is a bestselling author, keynote speaker, nutrition and functional health expert. She has spent over two decades helping thousands of people successfully reclaim their health. As a result, her book explains in great detail how to accommodate the female cycle (whether you are still having periods or not) while intermittent fasting.
Furthermore, Fast Like a Girl explains how understanding your hormones can bring you boundless energy, enhanced brain clarity, incredible sleep, and effortless weight loss. To sum it all up, check out Dawn’s overview of Fast Like a Girl!
Keeping myself immersed in learning about intermittent fasting is definitely the best way to strengthen my resolve during the “iffy” times. Undeniably, reading books about intermittent fasting on my Kindle and listening through Audible allows me to escape temptation just long enough to distract myself and strengthen my determination. Happy Fasting!
